High School Art Club and Mrs. Schock's students had the opportunity to travel to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They saw three floors of art exhibits, ate in the cafe', and climbed the Rocky Stairs!

To conclude Disability Awareness Week at SHAHS, we had the true honor of welcoming guest speaker Jaden Lieby to speak with our high school students.
Jaden shared his powerful story of resilience after being paralyzed from a tackle during a football game — a moment that changed his life forever. What could have been defined as tragedy has instead become a testimony of strength, courage, and unwavering determination.
Our students heard firsthand what it means to face adversity, to redefine your purpose, and to choose perseverance over bitterness. Jaden’s message went far beyond football. He spoke about gratitude, mindset, family, faith, and the importance of supporting one another — lessons that reach far beyond the field and into everyday life.
Disability Awareness Week is about more than understanding physical differences — it’s about empathy, inclusion, and recognizing the strength in every individual. Jaden’s story reminded us that challenges do not define us… how we respond to them does.
Thank you, Jaden, for your vulnerability, your honesty, and for inspiring the Hurricanes to lead with compassion and resilience. 💙💛

👁️ Seeing Science Up Close! 🧪
Our Honors Anatomy & Physiology students got a true eye-opening experience as they rolled up their sleeves and dove into a cow eyeball dissection! From identifying key structures to exploring how the eye processes the world around us, students were able to connect classroom learning with real-world anatomy in a hands-on way.
Opportunities like this spark curiosity, build critical thinking skills, and give our students a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the human body. Great work to our future healthcare professionals and scientists for embracing the challenge and not blinking at the chance to learn! 👏🔬

A letter from the Superintendent:
Dear Hurricane Family,
The weather forecast is calling for a significant winter storm to impact our area next week. In preparation, the district administrative team met yesterday to develop a comprehensive plan focused on student and staff safety, instructional delivery, snow-clearing procedures, virtual learning schedules, and the availability of our campus to support the community in the event of widespread power outages.
At this time, if school is closed on Monday, it would constitute our third traditional snow day, which would be made up later this spring. Should winter weather conditions persist or worsen as predicted, the district may begin utilizing Flexible Instruction Days (FID) as early as Tuesday, in accordance with our approved plan through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Additional details and guidance will be communicated as decisions are made.
Our top priority remains safety, and we will continue to monitor conditions closely while making decisions as early as possible to allow families and staff time to plan. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate what could be one of the most challenging winter storms in years.
Finally, I want to extend a special thank you to our custodial and maintenance teams. They have done an outstanding job all winter long and are once again preparing for what may be their largest storm yet. Their dedication and hard work behind the scenes do not go unnoticed. Please continue to watch for district communications in the coming days. Stay safe and take care of one another.
Sincerely,
Shawn T. Fitzpatrick, Ed.D

Algebra on the move! 🔍➕ Mrs. Frank’s Period 3 eighth graders turned systems of equations into a full-on scavenger hunt adventure. Teamwork, problem-solving, and a little friendly competition had students cracking clues, chasing answers, and racing to the next challenge—all while proving math is anything but stationary!

This year, our Youth Summit is proud to sponsor a Giving Tree to support families right here within our district. Each family shared wish-list items, and every gift has been lovingly placed on a tag.
When we return from Thanksgiving break, these tags will be hung on the Giving Tree in the High School lobby for students and staff to take and fulfill.
To ensure every gift is covered, we’re opening this opportunity to our entire Hurricane community. If you’d like to help:
🎄 Take a tag directly from the Giving Tree, or
📧 Email smitht@shasd.org to receive a virtual tag.
All gifts should be returned to Room 221 by Monday, December 15 so we can ensure timely delivery to our families.
Thank you, Hurricanes, for your kindness, generosity, and heart. Together, we can make this holiday season a little brighter for those who need it most. 💙💛
